Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay or ELISA Test is used to detect HIV infection. If the tests are positive, then the Western blot test is carried out to confirm the diagnosis. If the results are negative, then you should be tested again between one to three months to confirm if you really are suffering from HIV. Can a normal blood test detect HIV? Blood tests can detect HIV infection if the number of antibodies in the body are more than the normal range. In fact they are the standard tests to diagnose HIV.
