What is Chickenpox and shingles test? The test can detect if you are or have ever been infected with the varicella-zoster virus (VZU). The virus is responsible for chickenpox and shingles. The first time someone is infected with VZU, that human is vulnerable to chickenpox, and then they never get it again. Fun fact: The virus always stays attached to you in your nervous system, but it is dormant (inactive). But later in life, it can go active and will cause shingles. The people affected by shingles take around three to five weeks to recover. But it does result in long-term pain and health problems.
